Interior House Painting

Repainting one room or the whole house in Kingaroy? Robin quotes the exact walls, ceilings, doors and trims you want painted, and plans the work around how you use your home. Each room is listed in the quote with the preparation it needs, so you can see exactly what is being painted before any work starts.

Every surface is written into the quote

Interior painting quotes for Kingaroy homes are set out room by room. If a surface is not listed, it is not assumed. This is how a typical scope reads.

Example of how an interior scope is listed
SurfaceWhat is agreedWorth mentioning when you enquire
WallsWhich rooms, colour changes, and the patching of minor dents and cracks.Feature walls, dark-to-light colour changes, wallpaper residue.
CeilingsWhich ceilings are included, and the cornices with them.High or raked ceilings, stairwells, water stains.
DoorsBoth faces or one, plus the frames.Doors that stick, panelled doors, glass inserts.
TrimsSkirting boards, architraves and window frames, and the finish they get.Gloss changes, timber previously stained or varnished.

Bringing these details up early means the quote reflects the real job. A feature wall, a stained ceiling or a door that sticks can each change the preparation, the paint and the time a room takes, so they are better known before work starts than found halfway through.

Preparation and protection

Before any painting, Robin inspects the surfaces in each room. Most of the finish depends on what happens before the first coat, so this is where much of the time on an interior job goes.

A room prepared for painting, with drop sheets down, the light wrapped, a table covered and the arches undercoated
  • Curtains, pictures and mirrors come down, furniture is moved out or covered, and floors get drop sheets.
  • Switch plates and fittings are removed where possible, and anything left in place is masked.
  • Nail holes, dents and cracks are filled and sanded smooth. Joints that move, like where architraves meet the wall, get a flexible gap filler.
  • Walls are washed to remove grease and grime, then dusted, so the new paint can bond.
  • Glossy trims and doors are lightly sanded so the next coat has something to grip.
  • An undercoat goes on when covering a dark colour or painting new or patched surfaces.

What sits outside the scope

Painting preparation is not structural repair. Larger damage and moisture problems are raised with you before work goes ahead, so you can decide how to deal with them. Sagging ceilings, rising damp or an active leak need the right trade first, and painting over them would only hide the problem for a while.

Homes built before the mid-1970s

Older layers of paint may contain lead. Robin is trained in treating lead paint hazards, and he will recommend testing before any sanding or scraping. Where lead is found, he does the lead-safe preparation himself.

Living in the house while it is painted

Most interior repaints happen in occupied homes. Before work starts, you and Robin agree the order rooms will be painted in, so you know which parts of the house are out of use and for roughly how long.

  • Who moves furniture, and where it goes, is settled when the quote is accepted.
  • Rooms are ventilated while painting is underway.
  • Each area is cleaned up at the end of the job.

Some disruption is unavoidable, but it is planned with you rather than discovered on the day. Tell Robin about pets, children’s routines or a room you work from at home when you ask for a quote, so the room order can be planned around them.

How an interior job runs

From first look to final walk-through. See Our Work for finished jobs, or read about renovation and pre-sale painting.

  1. Starting condition

Robin walks through each room with you, notes the condition of the walls, ceilings, doors and trims, and checks whether older paint needs testing.

  2. Agreed scope

The quote lists each room and the surfaces in it, plus the room order and who moves furniture. Bring your colour choices, or any questions about them, to this stage.

  3. Preparation

Rooms are protected, then dents and cracks within the scope are filled and sanded, and surfaces are cleaned.

  4. Finish

Ceilings are painted first, then walls, doors and trims. Each room is cleaned up, and you walk through the finished work with Robin.

Interior painting questions

Question not covered here? Ask Robin directly on 0439 819 979.

How are surfaces included in the quote?

Room by room. For each room, the quote lists which walls, ceilings, doors and trims are being painted, along with the preparation they need, such as patching dents or filling cracks. If a surface isn’t listed, it isn’t assumed. Anything you’d like to add later, like an extra room or a set of doors, is discussed and agreed with you before it is painted.

Can rooms be painted in stages?

Yes. Many interior repaints happen while people are living in the house, so rooms can be painted in an order that keeps the kitchen, a bathroom or a bedroom usable. You and Robin agree the order before work starts, and you’ll know which rooms are out of use and for roughly how long. Larger homes can also be split into separate stages on different dates.

Who moves furniture?

This is settled when the quote is accepted. Robin will tell you which items need to come out of each room and which can stay, moved to the centre and covered. Curtains, pictures and mirrors come down before painting starts. If anything is heavy, fragile or valuable, mention it when you enquire so the plan suits it.

What affects the cost?

The number of rooms and surfaces, their condition and how much preparation they need make the biggest difference. Ceiling heights, stairwells and raked ceilings affect access. A dark-to-light colour change, glossy trims or patched surfaces may need an undercoat. Every quote is based on the job rather than a fixed rate, and it lists everything included.

Can you paint over wallpaper or a dark colour?

Wallpaper and its residue are usually dealt with before painting, because paint shows every edge and bubble underneath. Dark or strong colours get an undercoat first so they don’t show through the new finish. Robin has worked on older homes with wallpaper, uneven plaster and dark original colours, and he will explain the preparation each one needs in your quote.

Do you paint units and townhouses?

Yes. Robin repaints houses, units and townhouses in Kingaroy, including rentals between tenants. Empty rooms are the quickest to prepare, so if the property is vacant or between leases, share those dates when you ask for a quote. For units, mention any body corporate rules about working hours or access.
